Sea Girls – Lonely

As anticipation builds ahead of their new record, Sea Girls step things up another gear as they unveil their brilliant new single ‘Lonely’ – taken from their upcoming album Homesick – out March 25th on Island Records.

Directed by James Slater (Sam Fender, Blossoms), shot on the beaches of Morecambe, and starring JoJo Macari (Netflix’s Sex Education & The Irregulars), it’s a video drenched in nostalgia that follows the journey of singer Henry Camamile and an unrequited love (LARA), as he imagines what she’s up to now, in a series of colourful dream-like snapshots – watch here.

The track premiered as the Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1 by Jack Saunders, sitting in for Clara Amfo on the Future Sounds Show, the track delivers lyrics that are as raw and honest as any track on the record. Opening with a poignant whistle, the track pivots to acutely observed lines like “playing Fat of the Land by the Cash ‘n’ Carry / I nearly cried / On the back of my hand / Did a doodle you used to do when we were five”. Take a bow, the millennial Alan Bennett.

“It was written the day Ennio Morricone died, so was initially in honour of him, a nod to the good, the bad and the ugly – hence the whistle and the line ‘OK Corral’”, comments Henry. “It’s about the best friend I probably should have gone out with, but never did. We both moved on and the band happened and life got in the way for the both of us.”
